Things to Do at Tomamu

Hoshino Resorts Tomamu is a year-round destination — world-class skiing and snowboarding from late November to early April, and the famous Unkai Terrace sea of clouds, Mizu no Kyokai water church, Ice Village, golf and rafting from May to October. Everything is on-resort and walkable from the apartments.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Hoshino Resorts Tomamu has 29 runs across 145 hectares with world-class powder snow — averaging 12 metres per season. The mountain caters to beginners through advanced skiers, with English-speaking ski school, rental shop and lift passes available at the base.

Unkai Terrace (Sea of Clouds)

Ride the Unkai Gondola at dawn (May–October) to a viewing terrace at 1,088m above sea level where, on around half of summer mornings, you sit above a vast sea of clouds rolling across the Hidaka mountains. One of Hokkaido's most photographed natural phenomena.

Mizu no Kyokai (Water Church)

Architect Tadao Ando's celebrated Water Church sits on the Tomamu resort grounds — a serene chapel of glass, water and reflected sky open to visitors outside ceremony hours.

Ice Village (Aisu no Mura)

From mid-December to mid-March, an entire village is built from ice on the resort's frozen pond — including an ice bar, ice cafe, ice chapel, ice hotel rooms and an ice slide. Free to enter, magical at night.

Mina-Mina Beach Indoor Wave Pool

Japan's largest indoor wave pool, kept at 30°C year-round, sits next to a hot spring complex (Kirin no Yu). A perfect rest day for families — kids body-board the waves while adults soak in the onsen.

Hot Springs (Onsen)

Kirin no Yu offers traditional Japanese hot-spring bathing with both indoor and outdoor pools fed by Tomamu's natural mineral springs. Open year-round and included with most stays.

Summer Golf, Rafting & Hiking

From May to October the resort opens an 18-hole championship golf course, runs white-water rafting on the Mukawa River, and hosts hiking, zip-lines and a forest adventure park for families.
